Celebrate Earth Day in Florida Keys Style

Earth Day will soon be here. On Sunday, April 22nd, the whole world will give some love back to the Earth in a variety of ways. One of the best ways to connect with the Earth and support the environment is to spend time in nature. Several Florida Keys parks have Earth Day activities planned, where you can help conserve and protect the Earth and enjoy all her natural beauty and wonders.

It wouldn’t be a Florida Keys-style celebration without a community festival for Earth Day. No worries, just head over to Truman Waterfront Park in Key West on Saturday, April 14th for the Mote Marine Laboratory’s Ocean Fest. Check out environmental exhibits, experience wildlife interactions, support local marine artists all to the entertainment of live music, and much more. This is a great way to get Earth Day 2018 off to an excellent start.

There’s nothing like a foot race to help raise funds and awareness. Head over to McCoy Indigenous Park in Key West on Saturday, April 21st  for the 22nd Annual Earth Day 5K Run/Walk Key West for fun race to the finish line. Eco-friendly awards will be on hand for the winners and proceeds raised during the event go to benefit the Earth through Florida Keys Wildlife Society.

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, located in Key Largo, has a variety of activities planned for April 22nd. The kids will enjoy making arts and crafts, and the whole family can join a guided nature walk through the park. As the United State’s first underwater state park, Pennekamp Park is a remarkable place to experience nature underwater with a snorkel, floating by kayak, or viewing within a glass-bottom boat.

These are but a few Earth Day celebrations and activities you can find in the Florida Keys. The Monroe County Tourism Development Council has included an in-depth list to help you plan your Earth Day 2018. From green initiatives such as Straw-less Key West, to discounted admissions to aquariums, museums and more, anyone can celebrate Earth Day in Florida Keys style.
